Infant Childcare in Glen Allen

During the first months of life, children are offered a comfortable, safe environment. Soft cushions, colorful fabrics, textured surfaces, cozy peek-a-boo corners, soothing music, and dim lights are a part of their environment and discoveries. As our young infants grow, their needs begin to change. Our staff recognizes these changes and adjust daily to promote social, emotional, cognitive and gross motor skills. Your infant will hear many stories each day, participate in the developmentally appropriate activities, and may take a stroll in one of our Bye-Bye Buggies... weather permitting of course. In this classroom we witness the most relevant physical changes in a child's life. Babies begin rolling, lying on their tummies, crawling, then finally standing on two feet learning to be a toddler.

Research shows that an infant desires constant new stimulus. Our infants learn new skills such as how to vocalize and imitate speech sounds, reach for and grasp objects, and turn towards sounds. At our Glen Allen daycare for infants, we provide new activities and opportunities for infants to explore and learn every day!

Toddler Childcare in Glen Allen

For most children between ages 16 to 24 months, this is their first encounter with school. During this transition from home to a new environment, we believe in the importance of creating a strong bond between child and teacher, as well as creating a partnership between teachers and parents to support this process. At this age, children begin developing their own identity, self-image and confidence. Mirrors become an important tool to support this discovery and recognition of themselves. They are in a stage of enhancing their senses to explore the many possibilities that the environment offers.

Experiences of tasting, feeling, hearing, smelling and seeing become part of their journey of discovering the world around them. Our toddler childcare in Glen Allen supports this by offering experiences and provocations to interact and explore a diversity of materials with different properties such as paper, clay, rice, sand, water, and paint, among others. During this phase children frequently play by themselves but start considering and enjoying the presence of others and even notice and question when one of their classmates is not there.

Preschool 2s Classroom

During this age, we emphasize language development by repeating, taking turns with conversations, singing songs, and reading books throughout the day. We work on developing social and emotional, cognitive, early literacy skills and motor development. In the two’s class we are working on the beginning concepts of math, science and understanding how things work. We use child directed play and teacher directed play throughout the day to build on all these skills. We work on letters, numbers, shapes, and starting to count during circle time, along with fingerplays and songs to help with basic concepts.

Preschool 3s Classroom

At this stage in life, we know every child’s favorite questions, “Why?” At Magnolia Ridge, we take all those “why” questions and help them to focus on building theories and hypotheses of the world around them. Learning concepts from stories, rhymes, finger plays, singing songs, and using specific lessons to broaden their knowledge they can answer simple questions. We work on beginning handwriting skills including making letter and number formations. Children count to 10 and beyond starting to understand what numbers represent and how patterns work. We encourage children to make choices throughout the day to become more independent. We teach through play to make these skills fun and keep the children focused on learning, using small and large group activities.

Preschool 4s Classroom

In this phase of growth, children love to observe, question, discuss and participate. They learn about manners and working with others, and they become attuned to classroom routines and expectations. The program builds a strong foundation for early literacy skills with activities that build phonemic awareness and introduce children to the relationship between letters and sounds. We focus more on how the world works and what skills need to be developed for school readiness. We use activities to develop handwriting skills. Using creative art gives the children independence to express themselves.

Our Glen Allen preschool program fully acknowledges and addresses the many aspects of a strong early childhood curriculum, integrated, social, personal, and emotional development; oral language development; early literacy skills and love of literature; physical development and movement; health and safety; math; science; social studies; technology; and the fine arts. We use a Virginia Department of Education approved curriculum to begin kindergarten readiness.
